He Had a List of Our Bars

He had a list of our bars. Poland cracked open. And ICE deported Milo.

Welcome back to the Watering Hole. We will start with the hard part because it deserves the top of the page: two men were shot dead outside a gay bar in Tucson early Monday morning, and police say the man who killed them was carrying a note with the names of LGBTQ businesses on it. There is lighter news further down, and it is worth getting to.

Cultural Digest

Two men were killed outside the Venture-N in Tucson early Monday. Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33, were shot outside the bar at around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, August 31. The gunman, Ousman Ceesay, 44, died on the way to the hospital. Police say he approached them carrying a note with the names of several LGBTQ-associated businesses written on it. Detectives are investigating it as a possible hate crime and the investigation is still open, so we'll be careful with what isn't known yet. But a man walked up to a gay bar with a list. Say their names. Not his.

Four days earlier, in the Marais, a bottle to the head. Pierre Picavet, a serving police officer and president of FLAG!, the LGBTQ association inside France's interior and justice ministries, was attacked outside a bar in Paris's Marais on Saturday, August 29 by a man shouting anti-gay slurs. Internal bleeding, a head wound, hospitalized. Prosecutors are treating it as homophobic; the assailant, born in 2006, was in a Paris courtroom by Monday afternoon. What Picavet told Radio France: “When I get better, when my wounds have healed, I will continue the fight. I am particularly shocked, but it tells me that there is still work to do.” The Marais has been ours since the eighties. He was attacked in it, and he's going back.

The Gay Agenda

A Maryland district now wants a permission slip before a teacher can use a kid's name. Anne Arundel County Public Schools, outside Annapolis, has rewritten its rules: staff need parental consent before addressing a trans student by their name or pronouns. High schoolers used to be able to ask for themselves. Superintendent Mark Bedell announced the change on August 19 and the teachers' union got the email the next day. Context, because it matters: the district is being challenged in court by conservative groups and the administration has been dangling its federal funding. Union president Kristina Korona's read is that it “will begin harming affected students immediately.” The kids who are safe at home were never the ones the old rule was written for.

Cunt of the Week

ICE deported Milo Yiannopoulos. He campaigned for mass deportations. He got one. The professional “ex-gay” was picked up at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on August 27 and put on a plane to the UK the next day. DHS called him an illegal alien who had overstayed. He entered the country in May 2019 and never kept valid status. Laura Loomer says she's the one who phoned it in, and is taking a victory lap about it. There's no lesson here he will actually learn, so we'll take the one on offer instead: the machine never checks whether you're a fan. Cunt of the Week, and for once the fun kind.

Pride in Progress

Poland started recognizing our marriages, the ones we had to leave the country to get. Since August 23, Polish registry offices have been transcribing foreign marriage certificates covering “marriages between a woman and a man, two men, or two women.” It came out of a European Court of Justice ruling for a couple whose German marriage Poland refused to see, upheld by Poland's own Supreme Administrative Court in March 2026. Be clear about what it isn't: you still cannot marry in Poland, and President Karol Nawrocki vetoed even civil partnerships in July, calling them a “back door.” But there are couples in Warsaw this week who are legally married in their own country for the first time. Cracks are how it starts.

And if Tucson is the one that got you, send it to Tucson. The Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation has been doing the unglamorous version of this work for decades: HIV testing and care, PrEP navigation, syringe services, housing, case management and LGBTQ+ youth programming across southern Arizona. Local, already there, already trusted. That's almost always the right place to put the money after a week like this one.

Gay Joy

The pansexual figure skater with the Olympic gold is doing Dancing With The Stars. Amber Glenn, 26, won gold in the team event at the 2026 Winter Olympics and placed fifth in the individual women's. She skated to Madonna's “Like A Prayer,” and Madonna sent her a message before she went out and did it. Now she's paired with pro Pasha Pashkov for the season premiering September 15, the fourth figure skater ever to do the show. We are, as always, seated.

Hunter Biden went on a gay commentator's show and put a percentage on it. Asked point blank by Luke Beasley whether he's gay, he said “only a little bit.” Pressed for a number, he announced he was “back up to 48.5 percent gay,” having apparently dipped to 47 earlier in the same conversation. Stated type, for the record: “a little bit more masculine,” if he were gay. The figure moved at least three times in eighty minutes, which is the most relatable thing a Biden has ever done. The group chat has notes. The group chat always has notes.

📊 the math: one division problem that explains a lot

$540 million. What Grindr told investors it expects to make this year, after raising its own guidance on August 6.

172. Full-time U.S. employees it reported at the end of the second quarter.

Do the division. A chart going round this week put Grindr's revenue per head above almost every Big Tech stock, and the math roughly holds. One honest asterisk: 172 is the U.S. figure, and Grindr doesn't publish a global one.

So the most capital-efficient company in tech might be a gay hookup app run out of a couple of floors. Put it on the marquee. the filing
