The theme of this year's Atlanta Pride was "Louder & Prouder." Hurricane Isaias took that personally.
On Friday, Atlanta Pride announced "the cancellation of all Saturday, October 10, programming at the 2026 Atlanta Pride Festival in Piedmont Park due to the threat of severe weather and anticipated hazardous conditions across the Atlanta area." That is the whole first day of the 57th festival: the stages, the market, all of it, as Rough Draft Atlanta and the AJC both report. The AJC adds that Saturday's Trans March, Bi & Pan March and Dyke March are off too.
Sunday is still happening. "The cancellation applies to Saturday, October 10, ONLY," the statement says, in capital letters, like a group chat that has been asked the same question forty times. The festival and the parade on Sunday, Oct. 11 are expected to proceed "weather and safety conditions permitting." The parade steps off at noon, per Rough Draft. Anyone holding a Saturday-only Premium Pass can use it on Sunday.
how bad the storm is
Bad. The National Hurricane Center upgraded Isaias to a major hurricane on Friday morning, and by its 3 p.m. update it had 120 mph winds and was heading north toward the far western Florida Panhandle, where it was expected to make landfall Friday evening before moving up through Alabama. The forecasters warned of damaging gusts reaching western and northern Georgia. FOX 5 Atlanta and the AJC have running lists of everything else in metro Atlanta that called off Saturday, which is a lot.
"While this is an incredibly difficult decision, the safety and well-being of our community must always come first," said Chris McCain, Atlanta Pride's executive director. "We are working diligently to ensure that Sunday's festivities can move forward safely."
Atlanta is the second big Pride this year to be rearranged by weather. Paris Pride was pushed from June to October because it was too hot to march. The climate has opinions about our calendar. Atlanta's answer is the correct one: wait it out, and show up Sunday.
