Wladimir Klitschko, the former heavyweight champion and Hayden Panettiere's ex-fiancé, has asked a court to name him temporary guardian of their 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, so that he can open probate on Panettiere's estate. Kaya is the sole heir. The petition was filed Sept. 24, E! News reports, and TMZ and CNN both have it too.
The filing does not concern custody. It is about getting someone legally in charge of the estate quickly, and it is blunt about why: "Without an immediate appointment for these purposes, there is a high probability that property belonging to Hayden's Estate may be lost, damaged or dissipated before a duly appointed personal representative can be in place to protect it," it says, per E!. The same report says the petition describes locks being changed at her home and storage units of designer clothing being moved, and raises concern about "an individual" trying to take estate property. It does not name that person, so neither will we.
Panettiere died in August at 36. We wrote about her death and the bisexual memoir she did not get to see through. Klitschko has not commented on the filing; E! says it contacted his attorneys. A kid is losing her mother and, it seems, having to lawyer up over her closet. We hope the adults sort it out fast.
