Some couples argue about the dishwasher. Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson, it turns out, sit down and calmly agree that acting opposite each other would be "eww."
Taylor was on the third hour of NBC's TODAY on Tuesday, promoting the Apple TV comedy "Brothers," where she plays the mother of Matthew McConaughey's character, according to the show's own clip and TV Insider. Craig Melvin asked whether she and her longtime partner would ever do a project together.
"We were just talking about that, about a particular project," she said. "And I said, I don't know. It seems kind of eww."
Melvin asked what the project was. "I'm not going to say now!" Then the verdict, delivered as a joint ruling: "I said, wouldn't it be creepy? She said, kinda. So we don't really want to." And for the avoidance of doubt: "We don't think we would ever like the idea."
Entertainment Tonight ran the moment as "crushing dreams," which is fair, because a Paulson and Taylor two-hander is the single most requested project in a certain kind of group chat. It also pulled a separate clip of Taylor on how the two live: "we don't live together, meaning we don't like own a home together, but we are together more often than we are not."
We would watch it. We would also, on reflection, respect a couple who know exactly where the line between work and home is and have the decency to say "eww" about crossing it. Also from the same interview, per TV Insider: she'd bring back Professor Stromwell from "Legally Blonde" as a Supreme Court justice, so not everything is off the table.
