Jetten is the Netherlands' first openly gay prime minister, and according to ABC7, the room applauded him while he drank it. "We stand on the shoulders of great people that here started this fight for equal rights," he said. "Historical grounds like these are important, and we will make sure we'll never give up." Stonewall co-owner Kurt Kelly, who has presumably poured for a lot of visitors, put it simply: "That's why we have gay pride parades around the world (because) of what happened that night here."

Afterward, ABC7 reported, he went on to a reception hosted by the LGBTQ Victory Institute. The Netherlands marks 25 years of marriage equality this year.

This was not a victory lap, and Jetten did not treat it as one. "The rights of the entire queer community are under pressure all around the world," he told reporters, per Scene, and he meant at home too. NL Times reported that a new study by the Trimbos Institute and Utrecht University found the share of Dutch secondary-school boys with a positive attitude toward homosexuality nearly halved in four years, from 40 percent to 22, and fell among girls from 78 percent to 51.
