Jimmy has had a very busy week. According to the president, he left for school, transitioned, and was back home as Janet in three days, and nobody called his mother.

That was Trump at a Wednesday rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, on the second day of a Western campaign swing. On the 12 News livestream, he told the crowd Democrats want to "mutilate your children," then: "Six states. I mean, they could do whatever they want. And they do. Your son leaves as Jimmy and comes back home in three days as Janet. And they don't even ask you." He added that "they can take your child out of school and do whatever the hell they want," and then, "Minnesota is one of those states that can do that." He did not name the other five. The Epoch Times carried the Jimmy and Janet line from the same rally.

what minnesota's law actually does

The law he is reaching for is HF 146, Minnesota's 2023 trans refuge law, signed April 27, 2023. Its official title is about "preventing the use of subpoenas to gather information for out-of-state laws interfering in the use of gender-affirming health care." Its centerpiece says that another state's law letting an agency "remove a child from the child's parent or guardian because the parent or guardian allowed the child to receive gender-affirming health care" is "against the public policy of this state and must not be enforced."

Read that again. The Minnesota law exists to stop the government taking a kid away from parents. It does not mention schools. The clause critics usually cite adds a child being "unable to obtain gender-affirming health care" to the grounds for a court's temporary emergency custody jurisdiction. The bill's author, Rep. Leigh Finke, told NPR in 2024 that "the state cannot claim jurisdiction or custody of a child," and NPR reported the bill does not hand custody to the state.

jimmy's very busy week

None of this is new territory for him. A few days earlier, the rally material was Jon Husted's backside. This week it was a three-day transition, which is faster than most of us can get a callback from an endocrinologist.
