why it works
this is the drink for when the night is not over. the tequila does the work, the orange juice softens it, and the energy drink is the reason you're still on the dance floor. gay water grapefruit ties it together and keeps it from tasting like a mixer with a shot in it.
make it for a crowd
don't batch this one; build it fresh in the glass so the energy drink stays cold and fizzy. it's a one-at-a-time drink, which is also a decent pace-setter.
swaps
skip the energy drink and it's a very good grapefruit-orange tequila highball. use a sugar-free energy drink to keep the calories down. and drink water between rounds; sunrise is a long way off.
the pace note
this has caffeine and alcohol in the same glass, so treat it like one drink, not a round. build it fresh in a highball over plenty of ice, one at a time, and put a glass of water between each. the orange juice is there to soften the energy-drink edge; a little more of it makes the whole thing rounder. it's a last-hour drink, not a first-hour drink. sunrise is far. hydrate.
gay water is 80 calories, 0 sugar and 4% abv per can, so most of the calories in any of these come from what you add. must be 21+. drink responsibly.
